Marine spatial planning considers many components of coastal use while trying to maintain healthy ocean ecosystems. This can be challenging in heavily developed areas, such as the Coyote Point Recreation Area of San Mateo, California, where the Poplar Creek Golf Course and a power substation are just some of the businesses near the coastline.
