World Oceans Day, June 8, is a day to recognize all that the ocean provides us, from food and livelihoods to tourism and recreation. Although celebrating World Oceans Day will certainly be challenging along much of the Gulf of Mexico, now more than ever is a time to mobilize education, research and resources to protecting our water planet, no matter where you are. Organize or participate in a coastal or waterway cleanup (such as this one in Malaysia), support an environmental organization such as SeaWeb, or even just bring the family to the beach or an aquarium so they won't forget to appreciate our ocean.
See SeaWeb's Letter from the President for ways to help the Gulf of Mexico recover and our Get Involved page for more ideas for how you can help our ocean no matter where you live.
The Ocean Project has also listed many events and activities around the world celebrating World Oceans Day at http://theoceanproject.org/wod/2010events.php.
