Rising global temperatures are causing the rapid decline in sea ice in many polar regions, threatening a wide range of species, such as Adélie (seen here) and Emperor penguins on the Antarctic Peninsula. Sea ice loss and the many other effects of climate change are being discussed through December 10 in Cancun, Mexico, at The United Nations Climate Change Conference. The meeting has brought nations together again with the goal of adopting measures to reduce emissions and enhance global action on climate change.
